Welcome to The Digital Campfire Download, a live series featuring interviews with the creatives and entrepreneurs who are building and stoking the world’s most interesting and fast-growing online communities today.

If you want to learn how to create and grow your brand’s digital community, ensure that yours continues to thrive in this uncertain environment, and learn from people who are actually doing it, this free live video series is for you.

During each hour-long interview I ask my guests to share their insights and strategies on how to create hyper-engaged digital campfires, and make sure they stay that way. There’s also an interactive Q&A at the end of each session.

“If social media can feel like a crowded airport terminal where everyone is allowed, but no one feels particularly excited to be there, digital campfires offer a more intimate oasis where smaller groups of people are excited to gather.”

— Sara Wilson “The Era of Anti-Social Social Media,” Harvard Business Review

Who Am I?

I’m Sara Wilson, an LA-based digital strategist and founder of SW Projects. I used to run lifestyle partnerships at Facebook & Instagram and before that worked as a journalist for several leading publications.

In February 2020, I wrote a piece for Harvard Business Review in which I identified the phenomenon of younger audiences moving away from public-facing social platforms and flocking to smaller, more intimate online destinations that I called digital campfires.

A month later, the world changed.

As the realities of a global coronavirus pandemic set in, and virtually everyone’s life migrated online, the concept of digital campfires took on a whole new meaning. Practically overnight, staying connected with our community became a necessity, rather than a nice-to-have, help-us-stay informed-and-entertained option. Suddenly, everyone from our extended families to our local yoga studios to the Pope launched a campfire, and the tools required to build them (Zoom, FaceTime) surged in popularity.

In the wake of this pandemic, I wondered: What distinguishes a great digital campfire from a so-so one? How do you build one that everyone’s clamoring to join?  What are the secrets of keeping one stoked and burning red-hot over time, especially in such an unpredictable world?

To find out, and share what I’ve learned, I launched The Digital Campfire Download.
